Leaving Vanguard

For the last two and a half months Dave and I have been living on the Campus of Vanguard University as staff members of Project Impact. It has been a great summer full of growth in not only the students lives but ours as well! As sad as we are to say goodbye to all of our friends we are pretty excited to be getting back to normal life in the Riv (Riverside). Living in a college dorm has been quite an adventure but to be honest there are only three things that I have missed since being here; a dishwasher, a full size bed (we have two twin bunk beds pushed together) and Calvin having his own room. Besides these tiny inconveniences this summer has been a blast. Here are a few things I am going to dearly miss upon leaving Project Impact on Friday...

Jenn and Charlotte: I can not begin to tell you how much fun I have had with these two this summer! It has been such a blessing to wake up in the morning, tired and exhausted from the sleepless night before, and walk into the living room to see these two bright and smiling faces! Charlotte learned to walk while at project this summer, so in the morning when we come into the living room she usually takes off at full speed towards Calvin, squealing along the way, and gives him a huge hug and kiss! They really are great friends!

With the babies going to sleep around 7 Jenn and I weren't always able to go to the group events but that didn't stop us from having so much fun together! We made homemade ice cream, worked on scrapbooks for the babes, had coffee together every morning and wait for it... exchanged cheers! That's right we did some good ol cheerleading. Jenn showed me some cheers from her high school and college days (red red red red...gol gol gol gol gold!) and I showed her the cheer that I did for tryouts in 6th grade (I didn't make the cheer squad and it was quite evident why I didn't once I showed her the cheer haha) I seriously love this woman with all my heart! She is a beautiful example of a wonderful wife, patient and loving mother, and a great friend. I'm so blessed by her life and her love for the Lord. I really don't know what I would have done without her this summer!

Harry Potter Movie!
Jenn and I with the kiddos at the beach!

The Staff: Oh goodness how blessed are David and I to be able to be a part of Christian Challenge! We are surrounded by 7 amazing staff members year around that are seriously like our brothers and sisters. We all understand each other, quirky personalities and all, and have a blast every time we are together. Whether it is playing Ticket to Ride, having a Harry Potter marathon, staff lunches, or just hanging out we always have a good time. David and I seriously love each and every person that is on staff with Christian Challenge UCR and CBU and look forward to what God has in store for all our lives.
Ethan, Jeff, and Keith are Calvin's Brothers from other Mothers!
I have enjoyed so much being able to hang out with Tessa! I love her spunk and her passion for the Lord! Plus she is so fun to watch cook! She pretty much doesn't use a recipe and adds whatever her heart desires such as; eggs, spinach, chili powder, cucumbers, a little bit of this, a little bit of that, basically everything but the kitchen sink! She is awesome!

The Students: I have enjoyed getting to know all the students here and especially loved the friendships that I have made! They have worked so hard this summer whether it be in their job, volunteering at the soup kitchen or sharing the gospel on the beach. I've been so blessed by seeing their growth in their walk with the Lord this summer and I am excited for them to be able to go back to their campus this fall and be better equipped to share their faith!

Dates: Oh how David and I will miss our date time! Since we have been living with 5 other people we have been able to run to the store together, go on a jog or go get frozen yogurt while one of them watched Calvin. We like to think we didn't take advantage of them since they offered but we definitely took advantage of the opportunity to get some good date nights in as we know it will be harder once we get home!

Harry Potter!!!

Last but not least...THE BEACH: I will, with all my heart, miss the beach! Oh 70 degree weather you are my friend and I am going to really regret leaving you behind but please know, if I could I would bag you up and take you back to the Riv with me! Although I have not gone to the beach in almost three weeks, even though I live 3 miles from Huntington, I will miss the plain fact that I am not going to be right next to the ocean! I am thankful that Bethany was able to come down here and help me lay out (I get so ancy laying out I have to have her there to tell me to stay down) so that I can leave with somewhat of a tan! I was starting to get shades of blue and that's just not cute! Thank you beach weather and beach scenery... you refreshed my soul this summer! So four more days and then its back to the Riv. What a blessing this summer has been!

Several things:

1.) I am jealous that you got to live with Jen, and I am jealous that Jen got to live with you. Sounds like a freaking blast!

2.) You don't even KNOW how much you will miss those on call babysitters!

3.) Um, way cute bathing suit! I love it!

4.) WHY did I not know that you were already done? Holy cow, I must have been more out of it than I thought after surgery.

5.) I'm happy that you will get to get back into your old space--and hopefully you guys can all reconnect on a weekly basis!

I'm impressed with how much blogging you've done lately! Thanks for sharing! I had no idea that you were on such an adventure as taking a little one to live on a college campus for the summer.
